Benedictine abbey, Church of Our Lady

Pilgrims make the journey to Disentis both for the picture of the Virgin Mary (Mother of Mercy) in the crypt of the Church of Our Lady and the two patron saints of the abbey, St Placidus and St Sigisbert. The pilgrimage festival is on the Sunday preceding 11 July and on 11 July itself (the feast day of the abbey’s patron saints). The feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary is celebrated on the Sunday following the feast day of the Assumption of Mary.
